To check whether you have any new mail, open the appropriate mail box and then select Receive from the menu. tiggit mail will then connect to your email server and download any new email messages that have arrived.

When receiving mail tiggit mail will make the BlackBerry handheld vibrate for every message that is downloaded, and the handheld LED is set to flash red then green to indicate that a message has been recevied. You can change the way in which you are alerted to new messages by tiggit mail.

You can arrange for tiggit mail to automatically check for mail periodically by selecting the autoLoad option on the settings panel.

When performing receive tiggit mail will synchronise all the appropriate folders, delete any mails that have been marked for deletion and perform any moves between folders.

Settings relating to receiving emails

If autoLoad is selected, then tiggit mail will check for new messages at a regularity dependent on the value in the sendReceive period setting. The value of this setting is in seconds, so in the example in the picture above, tiggit mail would check for new mail every 300 seconds or 5 minutes. It is not recommended to check for new mail any more frequently than every 2 minutes (120 seconds) and most people find every 10 minutes (600 seconds) is sufficiently regular.

alertVibrate and alertLED can be set to change the way in which tiggit mail tells you a new message has arrived. When alertVibrate is selected, tiggit mail makes the handheld vibrate each time a message is downloaded, and alertLED tells tiggit mail to make the LED flash red and green when a message is received. The alert is trigged for all messages that are downloaded. Alternatively if you set alertUnreadOnly, tiggit mail will only alert you (vibrate and LED) when an unread message has been received.
